Punia revealed that if she had not been a cricketer, she would have been a badminton player. She used to play badminton with friends and got a bat when she came to know about cricket at the age of nine. Her father supported her in this decision of Priya. He sold his property and took a loan in 2010 to buy a 1.5 bigha plot on the outskirts of Jaipur. After this, in 2010, his daughter quit badminton and preferred to play cricket, father Surendra started practicing him on the nets.

Priya took cricket coaching from Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma in Delhi for seven years and then became part of the national team, impressing with his game. He first played domestic cricket for Delhi in 2016 and later made his international debut in 2018. Priya has played 5 ODIs and 3 T20 matches so far, with an unbeaten innings of 75 runs being her best performance.
