On Wednesday, 131 people died due to corona virus in Delhi, which is the highest death in a day. With this, the total number of people who died from Corona in the capital has increased to 7,943. With the arrival of 7,486 new cases on Wednesday, the total number of corona infected in Delhi has crossed 5 lakh to 5,03,084. The epidemic has taken its fiery form in the country’s capital. Delhi is now number one in the list of cities worst affected by Corona.
Perhaps the people of Delhi are not yet aware of how big the danger is in Delhi. More than one lakh cases have been reported in the last 15 days. The capital’s health infrastructure has also been affected by the sudden rise in corona cases. There is a shortage of ICU beds in hospitals. 92 percent of ventilator support and 88 percent of ICU beds without ventilator support are full. Family of Corona patients are traveling from one hospital to another in search of beds with ventilators. Public sector undertaking India Electronics is sending 250 ventilators from Bangalore on emergency level due to the seriousness of the situation. But the way the numbers are increasing, this number of Veterinators is not enough.
The death rate is very high among people suffering from diabetes and obesity. According to medical experts this is the third wave of corona infection in Delhi. Earlier the first wave of corona infection was seen in June and the second in September. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited the LNJP and Guru Tegh Bahadur hospitals to take stock of the situation. He has promised that 663 ICU beds will be increased in the next few days. The Center has assured to provide 750 additional beds.
Railways has deployed 50 medical coaches at Shakur Basti station to help Delhiites. A coach has 16 beds, that is, there is an arrangement to treat 800 corona patients at Shakurbasti station alone. Delhi government is going to conduct RT-PCR Kovid test on a large scale and by the end of this month, it is preparing to increase it to 60 thousand daily tests. 45 doctors and 160 paramedics of central paramilitary forces have been dispatched to the DRDO Hospital near Delhi Airport and 10,000-bed Kovid Care Center in Chhatarpur, South Delhi.
Since Dussehra in my prime time show ‘Aaj Ki Baat’, I was warning about the huge crowd in major markets and shops in Delhi. The crowd was such that there was not even an inch of space. Even after the end of Diwali, on Wednesday, we again showed pictures of huge crowd at South Delhi’s Sarojini Market. More or less similar pictures were also seen in Chandni Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Sadar Bazar and Lajpat Nagar. Now the time has come for the Corona guidelines, the guidelines related to it to be strictly followed, otherwise the situation may be out of control.
The most terrible and frightening effect of the corona threat is seen in the cemeteries and crematoriums of Delhi. The same pictures are coming again from the cremation ghats which used to come in May-June. Four months ago, the situation was such that only the CNG and the electric incinerator were not working, so the corpses were being lit on the wooden pyre. Now the wooden pyre is burning again in Delhi. In view of the number of deaths due to corona, the administration has allowed the last rites on the pyre of wood. Apart from this, three more electric furnaces have been built at Nigambodh Ghat for the last rites.
At a time when the leaders of all parties should have joined hands to fight the epidemic, but instead the leaders are busy in politics. Especially on the banks of the Yamuna, there is a lot of politics about Chhath Puja. The BJP is strongly opposing the Delhi government’s decision to ban Chhath Puja in public places in Delhi. There was a fierce battle between the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party leaders about this. Former Delhi BJP president and MP Manoj Tiwari even spoke profanely to CM Arvind Kejriwal. Manoj Tiwari tweeted … calling Kejriwal ‘Namak Haram’. Manoj Tiwari said that Kejriwal is doing a false drama in the name of guidelines. He said that why did Kejriwal celebrate Diwali in Akshardham with a crowd of his supporters? And now people are prohibiting people from performing Chhath Puja. Manoj Tiwari in his tweet asked why the Kejriwal government has given permission to open a bar restaurant in Delhi 24 hours?
On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court upheld the Delhi government’s decision on Chhath Puja. The Kejriwal government of Delhi had banned Chhath Puja in public places. The decision of the Kejriwal government was challenged by the Durga Jan Seva Trust in the Delhi High Court. The High Court reprimanded the petitioner during the hearing and refused to interfere in the Delhi government’s decision.
The High Court stated in its order that allowing people to gather for Chhath Puja in public places would allow the transition to grow rapidly. The High Court said that a third wave of corona has arrived in Delhi and the epidemic will spread more quickly by allowing crowds of people. The High Court said that it is necessary to stay alive for the festival. During the hearing, the bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Subramaniam Prasad made sharp comments on the petitioner. In its petition, the trust had sought permission for the gathering of one thousand people for Chhath Puja. The High Court said – ‘Oh really … today when the Delhi government is not allowing more than fifty people to gather for marriage, you want one thousand people to be allowed to worship. How could this happen? The court said – ‘In today’s time such a petition is far from the ground reality’.
Why Corona grew so fast in Delhi is not a secret. In the last fifteen days, people have reached the markets to buy, we have all seen this. But we did not see how many people hugged each other. There were parties in the family and entire families were infected. Those who celebrated Diwali at home, worshiped online are also safe. Now weddings are about to start, then the parties started and there was no restriction on the number of parties nor did anyone think of avoiding Corona. The effect of this fun atmosphere resulted in a sudden spurt in the corona cases in Delhi. Now the government is also confused as to what to do… challan for not wearing the mask of so many people… When thousands of people break the rules together, who should be caught? If the market is closed then there is loss of korabar and if the market is opened then uncontrolled crowd of people. Secondly, even if some markets are closed, what will be the difference, some shopkeepers will be killed. The people who have to go to the market, leave the house, they will reach the crowds in those markets which will be open. So lockdown or market closure is no longer an advantage. One more thing – it is the season of festivals. The Delhi government learned from the Diwali rush and banned Chhath Puja at the Ghats in Delhi, but the Delhi government did not know that people would leave for Chhath to go to their respective homes. There is a huge crowd of people at the bus stand and railway stations.
No one can tell better than the doctors how bad Corona’s condition is in Delhi. On Wednesday, I spoke to 5 big doctors in Delhi. All these doctors are associated with big hospitals. Everyone said that the condition in Delhi is explosive and dangerous. The doctors said that we are not getting beds in the ICU for our patients. One has to call 10-10 hospitals and request for ICU beds, hands have to be attached. These doctors said that there is so much violence that in many cases, patients died while waiting for ICU beds. Doctors say that it is very easy to say that more ICU beds will be increased. But to manage the ICU beds, doctors are needed .. Nurses are needed, where will they come from? Doctors said that if people do not care, then the situation will become terrible, the casualties will increase a lot.
When I asked the doctors what is the way? What to do? So he said that the path is the same as what you tell everyday for the last 8 months. Put on a mask, follow social distancing and wash your hands frequently. Doctors say that every person we meet should be treated as positive. You should insist on applying the mask and keep two yards even if two people have applied the mask. I can say the same thing to you again 2 yards and a mask is necessary. You can also celebrate the festival later, you can also embrace friends later, but it is important to be alive to do all this.
Regarding the politics going on in Chhath Puja in Delhi, I say that thirty to thirty five percent of the voters in Delhi are from Bihar, Purvanchal. There are a total of 16 million voters in Delhi. Of these, the number of voters in Bihar, Purvanchal is about four million. Therefore, all parties try to stand with the people of Purvanchal, get their support, take care of their feelings. But during Corona’s time, I do not consider it right to demand Chhath Puja at the Ghats. In this time of Corona, it is necessary that people of Purvanchal should be explained that stay in the house, if you stay away from the ghats then you will be saved from Corona. When Diwali can be done in the house of worship, worship of Chhath and Arghya can also be offered to God. But all things do not fit on the political pitch because in Delhi, not only in Delhi, politics is also being played on Chhath. The reason is also the same. In Mumbai too, the number of people of Bihar and Purvanchal is a political equation, the victory decides defeat. My only appeal to these people is to stay at home and avoid Corona. (Rajat Sharma)
