About four years ago an aircraft of Pakistan International Airlines fell victim to the accident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. It killed 47 people. According to a media report revealed on Friday, the investigation report of the incident said that the aircraft had three technical flaws, for which the engineers of the airlines were responsible.

It is noteworthy that PIA’s ATR42 (ATR42) aircraft crashed on 7 December 2016 near Havelian in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. All 47 people, including passengers and crew members, were killed in the accident. The accident was one of the most horrific aircraft accidents in the history of Pakistan, in which singer Junaid Jamshed was also killed.

Regarding this, Pakistan’s leading newspaper The Dawn has written that the Aircraft Accident and Investigation Board (AAIB) has completed its investigation regarding this accident. AAIB reported on Friday that the aircraft has been diagnosed with three technical problems before the accident, for which engineers of Pakistan International Airlines are responsible.

Let us tell you that a directive was issued in connection with the investigation report of this incident in connection with a petition filed by a bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) regarding several accidents related to ATR aircraft. After which the Chairman of AAIB, Air Commodore Usman Ghani, presented this report on Thursday before the bench of Sindh High Court.

Abdul Sattar Khokhar, spokesperson and senior joint secretary of Pakistan’s aviation department, issued a press release. Accordingly, the accident was investigated under the guidelines issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization. He said the investigation was aimed at improving the safety of air travel.

According to the investigation report, the plane crash was caused by three technical problems. These include damage to a power turbine blade of the aircraft’s first engine (Engine 1), a broken pin inside the over-speed governor, and possibly a pre-existing problem inside the propeller valve module.

The report said that the aircraft had been in the air for about 42 minutes before the accident took place. Analysis of the aircraft’s digital flight data recorder indicated that the first engine of the aircraft had a malfunction. The investigation report also stated that the accident happened suddenly and the aircraft crew was not trained to deal with such situations.
