In fact, a local BJP leader was allegedly beaten to death in a clash between members of two community clubs in Coochbehar district on Wednesday. His family gave this information. The kin of the leader said that the incident happened during the immersion of the idols of Maa Kali in the storm area. Although the BJP alleged that the Trinamool Congress is behind the incident, the ruling party has denied these allegations.
A senior police officer said that when Bhajapa booth secretary Kalchand Karmakar (55) tried to calm the two club members who were quarreling, people started fighting with them. The officer said that due to this, Karmakar fell unconscious on the ground. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead. He said that one person has been arrested and the matter is being investigated.
At the same time, the BJP has made the killing of the leader an issue against the ruling government and announced a 12-hour bandh. Party workers say that TMC workers are continuously attacking us in Bengal. Our workers are being murdered, but the government is sitting silent. Hence the bandh has been called to protest such killings.
